MEDIA RELEASE

The drum and the dancers are the main features of Native American Gatherings. You can learn more about them
July 27th at the Native American Indian Center of Central Ohio (NAICCO) during a fund raising pizza night. Monies from this event will help support the operations of community services provided by the Center.

Roger Wells, Mdewakanton Dakota, of the "Dacotah Travelers" drum will demonstrate and explain the meaning and purpose of the powwow drum. Wolfgrass Irwin, Three Affiliated Tribes, will demonstrate and explain grass dancing and his regalia.

This is cultural education and an excellent photo opportunity. The NAICCO also sponsors two powwows each year, Memorial Day and Labor Day weekends, to which the public is invited to experience Native American culture.

All-you-can-eat pizza, salad, dessert and a drink will be served at 6 p.m. on Thursday, July 27th, at the NAICCO located at 67 E. Innis, one block east of S. High Street.

The “edu-tainment” program will begin at 7 p.m. Be sure to check out the mural and native garden on the east side of the building along Fourth Street.

Tickets are $10 for non-members, $8 for current members. Children under 10 are free. Tickets are available at the door. However, tickets are limited, so advance tickets are available at the NAICCO and from Trustees or Committee members.

Phone for more information. 614-443-6120.
