Check this out. I'm sending it to the Courier
Journal in Louisville.
Racism alive and well
On July 5th 2002, I went to the University of
Louisville Hospital with my wife. When I returned to
my vehicle I had a note left on my windshield in
response to my bumper stickers which read "American
Indian Movement Supporter" and "Honor Native Treaty
Rights". The note left on my truck read:
"Move to the reservation you drunk. Do you enjoy the
casino money? You lost the land to a more
intelligent being (human). Go Redskins"
I would like to take this opportunity to espond to
this individual by stating that I am of
Cherokee/Irish ancestry and am very proud of both. I
do NOT drink alcoholic beverages and alcohol has
been introduced by white people, there was no
alcoholic beverages before European arrival. Not all
reservations have casino's, nor do all native people
live on welfare. Many native people struggle through
life just as you do, if not worse due to racist
employers. And as far as the "more intelligent
being", native cultures live with the land, we
didn't pollute our Mother Earth. We had no need for
chemical plants or nuclear plants, of which are
producing toxic wastes at an alarming rate. Now this
nation can't figure out a solution on what to do
with these waste's. More intelligent?
By the way, I do not hold hard feelings towards you.
I feel saddened that you are ate up with such anger
and hatred towards me. Although, I unlike you, my
friend, have the honor and the bravery to at least
sign my work.
